2020 has been a challenging year for the MICE industry due to the outbreak of Covid-19. During the new normal of social distancing, where events and meetings are paused or switched to virtual, some venues have decided to expand their geographical footprints to meet the future booking needs of events and meeting planners once the industry is recovered. IHG strengthen its footprint in Asia-Pacific
IHG has recently announced their expansion in several regions across Asia-Pacific, including Australia and India.
Crowne Plaza Melbourne Carlton (2021)
In Australia, the globally-branded Crowne Plaza Melbourne Carlton is expected to be launched in the first half of 2021. The hotel will feature 9 rooms with a total of 652sqm, including a 300-pax theatre style space for meeting and event purposes.
Holiday Inn Greater NOIDA West (2023)
Located on a 100ft arterial road called NOIDA in India and 20-minute drive from the commercial area - Sector 65 of NOIDA, the new built Holiday Inn Greater NOIDA West hotel will feature a 10,000 sq.ft meeting and banqueting space on its opening in the first quarter of 2023.

Marriott International celebrates the opening of three hotels across Asia-Pacific
Sheraton Hong Kong Tung Chung Hotel
Designed specifically for the diverse needs of events and meeting planners, the Sheraton Hong Kong Tung Chung Hotel features one of the largest ballrooms in Hong Kong with 3,400 sqm of indoor and outdoor meeting spaces. Its pillar-free Grand Ballroom could accommodate up to 1,300 guests and be divided into three independent areas. Marriott International announced the opening of Element Al Jaddaf on 15 December in one of the Dubai's emerging districts. The hotel features a business center with three compact meeting rooms.

Event Marketing Awards unveils new categories and judges for the 2021 awards
In response to the growing trend that events are switched to virtual, the Event Marketing Awards
has decided to open its entries to both live and virtual events and add nine additional categories to celebrate the fantastic contributions that have driven the event marketing industry forward during unprecedented times.
The 2021 awards programme has also announced their judges recently. The jury panel, a diverse and global group comprising the world's leading industry professionals, will face a daunting task of selecting and recognising the best work from a host of outstanding entries.
Now in its fifth year, Event Marketing Awards honours businesses that have applied best practices to the creation, planning, production and management of successful events in Asia-Pacific.
The entry deadline is 6PM, 21 January 2021 (GMT+8), with an additional entry fee applied to those who enter by 6PM, 2 February 2021 (GMT+8).

Venues introduce MICE offerings although Hong Kong-Singapore Air Travel Bubble has postponed

The Hong Kong government has announced a 2-week postponement for the Hong Kong-Singapore Air Travel Bubble. The scheme allows travellers, who hold negative test results within 72 hours before travelling and have no other travel history except Hong Kong and Singapore within 14 days prior to their departure, to travel between the two places without any quarantines. Although the scheme has postponed, venues in Singapore have launched several promotion packages for businesses. Check out how venues are going to welcome the return of meetings and events.

Meliá Hotels International hotels in 100% compliance with anti-Covid standards and measures, certified by Bureau Veritas
Bureau Veritas has completed the certification of the Meliá Hotels International “Stay Safe with Meliá" programme of preventative measures to combat Covid-19 and has also confirmed a level of compliance of 100% in company hotels.
At the launch of the programme in May, Meliá announced it was working with Bureau Veritas to guarantee compliance with the most rigorous health and safety standards. Bureau Veritas certified the suitability of the programme, and after having completed an audit in a large sample of hotels, has now certified the correct adaptation of operating procedures to the current circumstances and the excellent and controlled application of them in hotel facilities to minimise the risks created by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Royal Cliff Hotels Group awarded Amazing Thailand SHA Certification
The Royal Cliff Hotels Group was recently awarded the Amazing Thailand ‘Safety and Health Administration (SHA) Certificate which signifies that the hotel is ready for domestic and international guests’ return post-Covid-19.
The Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration (SHA) project is a collaboration between the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Ministry of Public Health, the Department of Disease Control, the Department of Health as well as public and private sector partners which aims to elevate the country’s tourism industry standards. Being awarded with the SHA certificate means that the hotel along with the Cliff Spa and all its MICE Meeting venues had undergone a strict inspection and passed the SHA’s good standards of hygiene, health and cleanliness in accordance with the nationwide measures to prevent the spread of the Covid-19.
